In the future, all companies have been taken over by a few greedy Mega Corporations who merged and bought out all the smaller companies, until the Mega Corporations owned it all, and now, as technology has taken them to the other planets they battle it out among themselves to strip mine them all of any valuable resources. The Quantum A.I. Computers have estimated that in 95 years there will be only one master Mega Corp.
